CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

MaryEllen Stone is seeking submissions for inclusion in her upcoming book In the “I” of the Storm—Stories of Thanks-Giving, a sequel to Run in the Path of Peace—the Secret of Being Content No Matter What.

Guidelines:  In the “I” of the Storm will be a collection of real-life accounts of individuals who have faced adversity, are in the midst of trying circumstances, who struggle with relationships, or dread day to day challenges. Stories must be non-fiction between 1,500 - 3,000 words. Narratives must embrace and reflect the message of Run in the Path of Peace. Stories can be in first or third person, but not previously published. Submissions must be accompanied by a completed submission form. Submissions not meeting requirements will not be considered. Submission deadline is September 1, 2012.

Rights:  One-time rights.

Payment:  Three stories will be chosen for special recognition. Authors selected for this honor will receive $50 and three copies of In the “I” of the Storm. All other authors whose stories are chosen for publication will receive two copies of the book.

CALL FOR AUTHORS TO SELL AND SIGN!

We are having our 3rd annual Texas Author book signing and sale at the Trman Kimbro Center in Madisonville on February 18 & 19th.

Saturday is the sale and signing and Sunday is a workshop for writers. I will have more info on that in the next week or so. (it is not necessary to do both, you can participate in just the signing if you would like)

If you are interested in having a booth to sell your books, please let me know. I think it would be an awesome opportunity for you. Also, if you know any other Texas authors who might want to participate, the more the merrier.

I was there last year and did very well selling my books. There is a lot of advertising for this and we had a really great turnout last year. I'm told there will even be opportunities to do readings throughout the day.

Lenora Worth!

Lenora Worth has written over 45 books for three different publishers. Her first Love Inspired “The Wedding Quilt” won Affaire de Coeur’s Best Inspirational for 1997, and “Logan’s Child” won RT’s Best Love Inspired for 1998. Her suspense “Code of Honor” finaled in the American Christian Fiction Writers’ Carol Award and her “Body of Evidence” made the New York Times Bestseller list in Mass Market Paperbacks. With millions of books in print, Lenora continues to write for Love Inspired and Love Inspired Suspense and she recently sold three books to Harlequin’s SuperRomance, still writing as Lenora Worth. Lenora also wrote a weekly opinion column for the Shreveport Times and worked freelance for SB magazine. She has now turned to full-time fiction writing and enjoying adventures with her retired husband, Don. Married for 36 years, they have two grown children—Kaleb and Carly. Lenora enjoys writing, reading and shopping … especially shoe shopping.

White Elephant Book Exchange Christmas Party!

If you missed our First Annual White Elephant Book Exchange Christmas Party, you missed a doozy!!!

We had a great turnout. Cheese grits, quiches, sausage/cheese balls, Swedish meatballs, Pumpkin/banana breads, muffins, fruit, vegetables, brownies, eclairs, cream puffs, and more adorned the tables, countertops and every available space. We washed it all down with soft drinks, coffee and Pointsettia Punch.

But the real fun came with we picked numbers. . .

The quest to find a white elephant book is not as easy as it sounds. Our first rule was: "Don't do it. Don't cross the line and bring one of our published author's books up in here." Of course, it should go without saying, but some of us were quaking in our boots:) Slightly.

You want to find a book with a quirky title. Something fun or funny. Outdated or just plain silly. Boring or technical is good too. Anything with the word "Annotated in the title usually works.

Besides a White Elephant book, everyone went home with a "Published Author" ornament. Not that we claim to be prophetic or anything, but Martha Rogers DID get her first contract after receiving one at the last Christmas party. . .

Noelle Marchand does not need this "How To Be A Skinny Girl" book:)

Elizabeth--we're gonna be calling on you when our dogs are under the weather.
